Kindergarten Newsletter
        September 30th -  October 4th

Homecoming is over! We had a blast and made some FUN memories! I was dog tired by Friday after the game! Emerson and JT did a wonderful job representing our K5 class. I am so proud of them. We will keep moving through our alphabet, working with some rhyming, sight words, working on handwriting, and diving deeper into our numbers to 10. We will work with things like before and after, making different ways to make 10. It’s hard to say on numbers 0-10 because it gets monotonous but I have to keep telling myself that they need a firm understanding of how to recognize, write, and manipulate these numbers to understand the bigger numbers. We are entering a new reading unit too. We will spend some time talking about weather. It’s pretty fun in kindergarten because the will learn more than   ***   what’s the wear like today, like today, like today….  ***      We’ll talk about the types of weather, about how weather is formed, and the effects of the sun to just name a few. We are also jumping on into the “holiday season”. From now until after Christmas we have a holiday and we surely ENJOY them in kindergarten. In October we celebrate Halloween of course but we’ll talk about bats, spiders, and do some pumpkin investigations! I would like to ask a favor! For our pumpkin investigations we use different types of pumpkins. If you don’t mind sending a pumpkin that would be GREATLY appreciated. I need different types/colors/sizes/textures. Walmart has green, white, and orange. I’ve seen some neat ones at Lowe’s and Home Depot. If you decide to pick up one PLEASE text me so I can be sure we don’t end up with 5 green ones! We will need them by October 11th.

Reminders:
Don’t forget to be collecting box tops! Box tops=free money for LSC!!
PLEASE don’t forget drinks in your kiddos lunchboxes to have a lunch time.
If you have any gently loved uniforms that you’d like to get rid of please consider donating to the school. We have a $5 spot where anyone can come and purchase uniforms!
Idea: Send a thermos of water for the playground. It helps to have a bottle to bring out to the playground during these HOT days!
Don’t forget to send nap mats back after we wash! J
Please sign and return those “sign and return” papers asap. I use these to guide instruction and would love to have them back. If you want/need a copy let me know! I’ll be glad to send one! J
Secret Tips:
Your toolkit has a “fridge” and a container with magnetic letters. Please feel free to use those to work on letters and sounds. This is another neat way to practice.  You can just lay the letters out on the table and give your kiddos a letter sound. Have them find the letter that it matches with and have them place it on the fridge.
Use the vowel and consonant cubes to work with letter id as well. If you kiddos has the letter id down pat then move on to sounds. We want these sounds to be as fluid at possible because when they start reading we do not want them spending “brain power” trying to remember the sound.
