Kindergarten Newsletter
January 20th - January 24th

What an AMAZING week we had last week. I can say that I was absolutely exhausted by Friday night. We worked so hard and had so much fun. Our field trip and my birthday was AMAZING. They talked about Auburn the rest of the week. I love that field trip because the experiences are so unique. We also rocked our first spelling test and I couldn’t be prouder! We will continue right along with our sight words, decoding and blending, and READING! We will also work on our numbers to 30 and even begin some addition. Most of the kiddos have picked up on the addition but we are going to actual teach it soon! We will also be preparing for our 100th day of school! This is always a fun marker for us! Don’t forget to be working on your 100th day t-shirt with 100 things on it OR your 100 year old person outfit! I’ve got mine almost ready! I am also going to be sending home a reader for your kiddo to practice reading. Just send it back and we’ll send a new one home the next day! J They are GROWING UP!

Secret Tips:
Everyone did so great with sounding and blending this past week. Use the blocks and the magnetic fridge to practice building spelling words. Remember! It’s not   memorization! Get them to hear those sounds. That will be the best benefit that  you can give to them as beginning spellers and readers.

With the readers, take them slow! The BEST thing to do is do a picture walk first. All that means is to use the pictures to figure out what is happening without reading any words yet. Then, go through and see if you can point out any sight words. Lastly, practice reading. It’s always a good idea to read it multiple times to build that fluency!

Kindergarten Newsletter
January 13th - January 17th

Thought: Do you ever look at your kiddos and start smiling? Not because they did something amazing, just smiling because that's who you've been blessed to love everyday? Well, I sure do!

The kiddos were not too happy with me this past week. They didn’t like the no naps and the “extra” work. Hopefully, this will end soon. We are going to spend this week working with short –an words, reviewing sight words, and finishing our second benchmark testing. In math, we’ll work on reviewing numbers 0-20, making numbers to 10, and working on recognition of larger numbers. On January 15th, we are leaving at 8:30 to head to Auburn for our STEM day. I NEED ALL FORMS ASAP!!! Don’t forget your information for the time capsules! This is going to be so special! We will celebrate the 100th day of school on the 24th. We will dress like 100 year olds or make a shirt with 100 things on it. It’s totally up to you and your kiddo about which you do! We will also do a lot of fun things that revolve around the number 100 that day! Don’t forget your spelling words! We will take our very first spelling test of Friday! It’s very easy and we will practice all week! The biggest thing is knowing the letters and sounds that make up those words.

Secret Tips:
•We are starting to move forward and going to really start manipulating words. The best thing we can do for our kiddos is to get them to hear sounds and be able to build words on their own. When working on spelling words and words in general make sure that you are giving them the letters and sounds instead of just   memorizing. When I give a test to them I will tell them that there are three   letters and three sounds (this will be important when we start adding in more     complicated sounds). I will then break it down one letter/sound at a time.

January 6th - January 10th

I am so excited to be back! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We are entering the second half of kindergarten and we are about to bloom. We’ve spent the first half of the year planting seeds, adding water, plenty of sunshine, and now we are ready to BLOOM!! We are going to spend this week working with short –at words, reviewing sight words, and starting our second benchmark testing. In math, we’ll work on reviewing numbers 0-20. ON January 15th, we are planning on going to Auburn University for a STEM day. I took the kindergarteners last year and it was one of our favorite field trips! I’m going to be sending home two waivers that the school needs a week in advanced. PLEASE sign those and send them right back so I can get them in to them. We’ll basically leave school at 8ish, meet at the college, tour, do fun magic, eat lunch, and come back home.  I’ll send a form home with all the details very soon! For the new year we are going to be making a kindergarten time capsule for us to open when we are seniors! It’s going to be such a fun and special thing. I just need a shoebox and for you to fill out the information that I’m sending home. J
